When your letters are mailed

One envelope a month, posted on the same schedule every time, so your child knows roughly when to start watching the mailbox.

Subscribe by the 20th of the month, and your letter is mailed on the last business day of that same month.

Subscribe after the 20th and you come in with the following month's mailing. That gap is the week we spend printing, assembling the artifacts, and addressing every envelope by hand.

What happens between those two dates

The list closes

On the 20th we lock the subscriber list for that month and nothing else goes into that batch.

We make your envelope

Letters printed on parchment stock, artifacts counted in, parent guide folded, and your child's name written on the front.

It goes to the post office

Every envelope is dropped together on the last business day, USPS First Class.

A few things parents ask

How long after it's mailed does it arrive?
Usually three to five days, anywhere in the United States. USPS First Class is not guaranteed delivery, so give it a week before worrying, and a little longer in late December when the mail is at its heaviest.
I subscribed on the 22nd. Did I miss a letter?
No. You've missed that month's mailing, not a letter. You start at Letter 1 like everyone else, and your first envelope goes out with the next batch. Nobody ever joins in the middle of the story.
Does my letter number depend on when I joined?
No. Every subscriber begins at Letter 1 whenever they sign up, and moves through the twelve in order. Two children who started six months apart are simply at different points in the same story.
Can I give a subscription as a gift and have it arrive by a certain date?
Yes, as long as you work backwards from this table. Subscribe by the 20th and the envelope is posted at the end of that month, so for a birthday or a holiday, give it an extra week on top of the mailing date. If you need it to land on a particular day, email us and we'll tell you honestly whether it's possible.
What if we move house?
Update your address in your billing dashboard before the 20th and the next envelope goes to the new address. After the 20th, that month's envelope is already addressed.
